Quasar Patriot build

well this is the first time i have built one of the kits made by Quasar One rockets i must say the quality of the kits is right up there will post build pics as i go so members can see how great these kits are

Patriot specs

Length 42.25 inches  , Diameter 2.60 inches , Weight 14.80 oz, Motor 3 24mm estes or Areotech

okay the paper work you get with each kit is really spot on nothing missed at all step by step build information to help keep you on track





and the stickers you get with the kits top quality

First thing the nose cone, none of this crappy balsa stuff all the kits come with plastic nose cones all the larger kits have a hook and eye set up which you can see in the picture screws into the nose cone then apply some epoxy so she does not come out




next the parchute comes with some nice strong string much thicker than the estes stuff first attach the plastic sticky  o rings over the parachute line holes place on both sides ontop of each other then measure four equal lengths and cut then feed them thru the hole that is already punched in the chute and tie the string in a double knot

below are the motor tubes with there engine hooks and motor blocks installed 5min epoxy was fine for this

next was installing the motor tubes into the fiber centerings a small notch was made on all three holes to allow the engine hooks movement when installing motors for launching below is just before glueing




the cluster is almost ready to be installed in the airframe now once the centerings and motor tubes are glued together using 5 min epoxy

here is the motor mount glued into the airframe about 3inchs into the tube using a piece of scrap balsa apply epoxy to the inside of the airframe then apply some epoxy to the centerings and slowly push the motor mount into the airframe as the rear ring comes close to the end of the airframe place some more glue inside the airframe all away around the inside of the airframe then push the rest of the motor mount in


then place a nice fillet of glue around the inside edge of the motor mount and airfarme


below the shockcord attached to the nosecone nice double knot here and you can see the shock cord has been glued into some card much like in an estes rocket it will be glued onto the inside of the airframe using epoxy

here are the fins attached to the airframe i have used 5min epoxy and some good sized fillets on the fins



the fins are then coated with some woodglue to help stiffen and to help the painting process by which the woodglue will act as a barrier stoping the paint being soaked up into the wood

some nice gloss white paint paint from bunnings cost $3.00 per can



the bottom of the rocket has been painted red the section at the top of the rocket is one of the decals/stickers

now we cut the decals /stickers out as per instructions and place on the rocket being careful one good thing thing about the stickers /decals if you are not happy with the way you placed them on the rocket you can simply and slowly remove them as they are very strong


below is the finshed product now we just need to launch it i must say these kits are very good and easy to build

Well that turned out not bad the stickers really make it look the part.

what motors do you reckon you'll fly it on?

I imagine clustering aerotech AP motors would be a little more risky than estes BP ones simply due to the reputation the aerotechs have for occasionally misfiring?
