Extreme Wildman on M1297W

Redundant avbay setup really paid for itself on the K flight.
Inspection after recovery showed that the primary drogue charge didnt go off so backup system saved the day.

Testing showed that cause was a faulty q2g2. thats first q2g2 I've ever seen fail.
i test resistance of each q2g2 before installing...all have been around 3ohms
except this one was 4.2 ohms..but for some reason i still used it...didnt think it would be a problem...it was.
tried it again after the flight on a 9v battery and it still wouldn't ignite

next time any q2g2's over 3 ohms will be used only for lpr launches

I read somewhere that the specs for q2g2 were 2.7 +/- 0.5 ohms

Hehe, with the amount of epoxy on that thing, you're more likely to damage the door I reckon! Tongue

Personal Report
The big day arrives...a perfect day for rockets: clear and calm!
Lots of family turn up for the big day...hard to find time for careful preparation
Huge thanks to FTO's RBSA and MickHPR who babysit me thru the day...arriving ultra early to setup a special prep tent area away from spectators

Finally the big moment... 10 months of dreaming and scheming all comes down to the push of a button!
Having to go back 150m made everything seem even more serious and nerve-wracking!
Suddenly all goes very quiet...
Last stupid thought before I push the button "wonder if i have forgotten something obvious?"

Don't remember much about the actual flight...must have gone into shock!
Do remember seeing movement, smoke and flame on the pad but hearing no noise...eerie!
Until realise that was because so far away from pad.
Wow! power of an M is spectacular!!! Roars and roars!
Then trailing smoke goes on upwards for ever.
Smoke puff then another..drogue is out.
Now for the long wait...finally 2 more puffs...main is out.
Drifting the wrong way...towards the farmhouse!
Lands much further away than expected...winds must be different up there...almost calm at ground level.
Now to find it...wild fast ride on back of ute over back roads and paddocks...
phew! spotters have already found it!
FTOs down to business...serious and grave...a long inspection...
"looks like a pass to me...whaddya think?"
"mmm...'fraid so"
