Here are a few photos of making the fins for the booster section

this is the trimmer router  i used to cut out the fins. It has a 1/8th" tungsten carbide burr attached, i just follow the edge of the custom board template.

Yeeeaaaah! what a project this will be!
This is the AARC dream team!
between them 20+ years of HPR experience
MickHPR was flying Aerotech hybrids when many of us were in nappies!
Mr Hybrid has the skills and equipment to make every component that you could imagine for HPR + ASRI experience

I suspect this will be a Skyripper 54mm staging to an Aerotech 54mm
by the look of the fin tabs a 2.5" or 3" airframe

wow! what a bold undertaking!

please post info regarding the method for pad filling but air starting a hybrid - i imagine it must add some complications!

hi Here are some more photos

these two are of setting up the motor mount in the milling machine ready for slotting 0.6mm deep for fin location (note tube is not cut to length yet)

The next few are of making the centre rings
notice i keep a blank one behind the one being drilled in the chuck, so as to prevent the ring that is being drilled from getting squashed out of shape by the chuck jaws

Hi Mr F in regard to your question about pad filling and air starting a hybrid. in this case we are using MickG's Aerotech hybrid which operates a different way to the skyripper system. The Aerotech hybrid is a sealed system meaning that the flight cylinder is pre filled before loading into the rocket. it uses a pyro valve to release the gas so all you need is an igniter just like an AP motor.

Okay here are some more photos of gluing the fins on
first of all i slotted the motor mount 0.6mm deep and then fitted the aft centre ring and also slotted that, part way through to accommodate the notch in the aft end of the fin. Then while still under the chuck i use the chuck to hold the edge of the fin directly in-line with the centre line of the tube while the glue sets. This ensures that the fin is aligned perfectly with the centre line of the rocket.
