Just a quick reminder to anyone building rockets. Always remember to glue the launch lugs on prior to painting its really annoying when you have finished painting to have to attach them after. |

I have seen this too - and had to saw up biros etc to make new ones in a hurry. On a safety note - make the launch lugs as secure as possible - the rocket usually reaches the end of the rod before it is going fast enough to be aerodynamic. IE has a CP behind the CG. You dont want your rocket going horizontal because gravity will take over. |

I used a broken fishing rod for launch lugs on my esteloc murderer. I sanded the paint from the BT before fixing the lugs. I don't trust anything glued to paint. |

One item I have found handy to use for a launch lug. That is the small tube that holds an Aerotech igniter. When your at a launch and you have lost a lug off your rocket these come in handy! |

Guilty here too.
Sandpaper - Loctite 406, and heat shrink tubing. You all may well cower in horror when you hear this, but keep in mind I deal with the smaller side of life for the most part. A last minute sollutionI came up with in the field once was some cardboard stuck to insulation tape and solidified into a "C" shape with some loctite. Fitted a cleanly cut band of tape around the body. It worked, but I wouldnt recomend it as an everyday practice, or really at all. I had 15 min left in my launch window and it had to go or it wasn't going anywhere. |

Yeah I use heat shrink tubing for my smaller projects. for anything bigger than about C class I use maccas straws. If I cluster something like 3 D's I go and get rigid PVC tube from the hardware store. A dry lube stick is udeful for the launch rod as is some wet and dry paper beforehand. Or for the lack of dry lube, a drop or two of sewing machine oil on a rag. Helps stop it rusting and makes for a better launch. |

Lol I think improvising is an aussie thing. Then again, some people are rather shocked at what I come up with when they stupidly lock me in a room for fun. Last time I used a nail pried from the wooden bed slats to remove the hinge pins on the door, and my boot to hammer it.
Took the whole door off and went after them.
I have some crazy friends. Though they are a little more careful now. |
