Having looked at some of the problems Australian rocket clubs face it appears clear that many clubs break up due to 2 main causes!

(1) A commercial interest
(2) Lack of recognition of volunteer work.

To address this I have started this thread to aknowledge the people in Australia who have actually done some work in helping develop the growth of the hobby in Australia. It should be noted some of these people may not be liked by other people. In fact if I met some on the street I would likely give them an ear full. However it is appropriate to give people the recognition so future members realise who the people are who have actually done some work.

My apoligies for names that may have been left out. There is likely a very long list!

(1) C Melvey
(2) M Nesic
(3) T Mately
(4) D S Clarke
(5) D Sakko
(6) M Gerlach
(7) K Sarney
( P Dalimore
(9) W Button
(10) G Nicholls
(11) P Teakle
(12) D Bromolow

If members can think of others please feel free to add to the list!

 D Boyd

This is one person who comes to mind. His generous donation of a two channel timer to the AARC is still listed as a donation in our clubs assets list. Be aware D Boyd we still have it. Thankyou!

I'd like to second C Melvey and D Bromolow.,

The others I don't know much about.
I went to Sydney a couple of years ago especially to meet Carl and arrange motors for the club. Motors F and over were very difficult to get a hold of locally before then, and when they were, they were very expensive.
I got on with him quite well I think. He is a good guy.

Des paved the way a little by giving me some info about starting a club.

Some achieve great things, while other take the credit..always make sure you belong to the first group.

K Sarney is up for honary membership with PARC this year he has been president for 10 years and joined AARC all those years ago and flew over to Adelade to fly rockets at Lake Finness? and obtained a copy of the AARC constitution to bring back to Perth to use for PARC thats how it all begain

P Dallimore over the last 10 years has always helped PARC and ships rocket motors across the country to rocket clubs who need them Peter also went and got all the permits and stuff so we could have high powered motors at our disposal

I have come across many of the names when researching all the rocket clubs past and present as I was putting together a history of rocketry in Australia. Its good to know previous history what was tried as clubs what failed so we can learn from those  before us.

Des Bromilow name was on  a few websites with very old links and info for a rocketry club in QLD. Queensland Rocketry Society was a named used many many years ago I will have to go through the bookmarks and maybe start a thread for old rocketry links and info.

Actually QRC I have never spoken to him but am aware of his contribution to the development of the hobby in Australia! He was one of the rare people who actually put their hand up to do some work!   Well done Des! and thankyou from your fellow rocketeers!

Not sure whether D Wilkins was a former member of ARA or not wolfies gurl.

Have found some more names for honour roll;

(1) K Helman
(2) Owen Pitt
(3) R Clermont

Nearly forgot Roy

Have 3 boxes wolfies gurl of historical ARA material which would likely raise a few eyebrows in regards to history of high power rocketry in Australia! Can send some material over to you for your reseach if your interested??

For example! AARC was launching K & L power hybrid motors in 2000

I also give the nod to Kevin, Frank, Carl, Des, and I will add our very own Nat and Phillip to that list. If every club had a Nat & Phillip, rocketry would be mainstream in this country. Thanks guys!

Are you getting all this down, Maurice?
Reading the above, I could put in some names but I have lost count.
Trevor and Shirley McIvor in Toowoomba started a church boys club in 1969, and for an activity they made and launched rockets.  To verify this check with Carl Melvey.  They started making nose cones from balsa because a friend had an electric drill.  Yes, electric!
Trevor is a retired electrician and put together the launch gear and ran 4 launches per year until the early 90's.
Des Bromilow used to come up to our launches from Brisbane, but I heard he went to the pilbara.  Then there was a cyclone, and no-one has heard of him since.  (Ok, he sent me an email to say he was ok.)
Dean Hawthorn of ##### helped us get the Manual of Procedures right.  He was the president of ##### at the time - 2005-2006.
Our Toowoomba club would not be launching rockets if not for the MAAA secretary Kevin Dodd and the then MAAQ President Jeff Phillips insisting on me making a presentation to the MAAA national council to put the case for "Space Modelling" to be covered by MAAA insurance and rules.  The deciding factor was all the people who have contributed to safe rocketry in Australia for the past 40 years.
