I was going to add a poll but it only allows seven choices and there's eight rockets! Technology wins again

Feel free to comment/vote on these rockets. They're the final entries in Fridays competition. There may be one or two late entrants but they've missed the deadline so they miss the "Best Design" votes, I'm afraid. Image captions read from left to right.

1. Silver Streak    2. Fire Fox    3. Midnight Strike

4. Candy Cane     5. Twister   6. Fat Blaster    7. Stargazer    8. Storm

If you're going to vote I'll add them to the final tally. The rockets are in the library being judged by the school students as we speak. We've been voting 1st 2nd 3rd.

Well done to all contestants... it's raining outside right now... hopefully it'll buggered off within the next couple of hours!

Actually, it turned out pretty good, considering the weather we had leading up to it. I reckon that it was the lowest wind speed I've launched in to date.

Sun came out 5 minutes before launch... should I call it the launch window? A few spots of rain now and then but overall it was fine... like I said, it could've been so much worse!

We had plenty of good launches... several lawn darts though! Some of the members were using string as shock-cord (cruddy plastic string, no less) and I reckon the ejection charge melted straight through it. We got all the nose cones back except one. A lesson for some to learn there!

Further results:

Midnight strike achieved the highest flight (we used a clinometer but didn't bother using trig for actual height)
Prototype I (not pictured) achieved closest landing to target zone (just about landed on the measuring fella's head)

The three winners each receive a Hi-Flier rocket kit.

Great turn-out. It will be interesting to see how many new members we gain after today. Actually, I don't even care... we're having fun as it is!

haha, thanks G... I appreciate that a lot because fat blaster was mine

there's nothing quite so satisfying as a maiden flight for a scratch-built rocket. All the questions you ask yourself about stability, aerodynamics, strength and durability are answered in a massive whoosh and a roar from the crowd
