placing the black powder in the well for this 5 inch rocket it needs 4 grams

ok  the well is full of black powder now we just level the BP out in the well

then we get two pieces of wadding

one gets rolled up the other one like below is also rolled but we make sure it has a nice smooth base on one side that will rest on the black powder

smooth side being placed ontop of the black powder

pushed all the way down until it is firm against the black powder

then the secound one is placed on top of the first one

ok now we place one short piece of masking tape over half the hole as below

then we overlap the next piece then push the tape down around the sides

then cut of enough tape to go all the way around the ejection well with half hanging above the well you can see in the pic below the tape is going around the top of the well

and next push the tape down until you have a nice seal on the ejection well

now i have used the above method for over a year now with no problems and the best initiators for this type of dual deployment is the quest Q2G2 Igniters does not take much to set them of

This is very educational. Seems like an excellent system.

Hey Wolf,
you have some great pics of the Ejection wells for the DD, do you have any pics of the inside of the avionics bay + electronics layout.

I'm going to be working on mine shortly and wanted to have a shoofty how yours is set up.

Also...am i any worse off using spent "C" motors (as i have some) ...maybe just cut them a little higher to get the black powder in.

Cheers

estes igniters are no good

the quest ones hopefully will be coming in soon will find out for you if they take a while to come in what you do is just buy quest size C motors and swap the igniters for estes ones you then have three Quest Q2G2 to use

Saw this today for sale on rocketryplanet website auctions.....ejection wells made out of plastic.  Do these work (the name suggests they do), would have thought they might explode or being plastic they would leave a molten gooey mess everywhere.

(you may have to copy and paste this link)
http://www.rocketryplanet.com/auctions/10-6.35g-Ejection-Canisters--,itemname,3631,id,auctiondetails

Would certainly make the whole ejection canister thing a bit easier to mount instead of using D-type engines (depends how they ignite i guess doesnt it).

Any thoughts....im just a novice so i would expect these things would just blow up or melt...i'd prefer to go the bulky route of a cut-in-half C or D type motor ejection well.
