Hi all, Google led me to you. I read through FAQs http://waro.iinet.net.au/parc/faq.htm but still have a few questions, hope you don't mind me asking here. Used to play around with smaller rockets (A, B, C engines) a few years back. My little one is getting interested in them and I thought I'd look at the scene again. It's getting harder to find open, quiet parks around here which is why I started searching the net. Looked through some of the pics around the site of the rockets and it all looks awesome! I see there is a possibility of a launch this coming weekend, are visitors welcome? Four of us would probably be coming out if we could. Interested in signing up for a membership but realistically we'd only make it out once every few months and we'd be using small rockets if we launched anything at all - would that be an issue? Is the availability of the launch site limited to scheduled dates - work would end up giving me days off here and there but I won't always have weekends available - it looks like high flying rockets need permission to launch but I don't know if that affects the smaller rockets also? Thanks for any info, sorry if there is a better place to ask Ken |

I guess I should keep all my questions in here rather than the 25th thread. Thanks for the glue/dope/talc suggestions Getting ready to attach the fins, looking at the template it doesn't make much sense. This is for a Quasar One Storm Chaser kit. The red line is where one edge wraps around and touches the other. It is a rectangle, it's just sitting funny on the table that makes it look like it's smaller on one end. My question is about the position of the fins & launch lug. I'll end up with two fins on one side "around the back", and one on the other "around the back" (to me the back is where the launch lug is). Does this seem right/safe? I'm inclined to ignore it and place them evenly around body. |

follow the the fin guide this is correct you get some kits that are even and some like this just wrap it around the air frame make sure it is tight and mark each line top and bottom then draw the lines up as far as you need it. a bit of angle iron is good for marking the lines or if you have one a estes ruler. post pictures of your build and any other questions you have. |

The fin guide should be correct, but from the photo you posted it does look a little odd. The distance between the fins should be equal, and the launch lug mid-way between 2 of the fins. I'm assuming the storm chaser is a conventional 3FNC rocket? |

I had to google 3FNC. Yes, kind of - 6 fins, but top fins mirror bottom fins? This has confused me further. Instructions saying fins should be 120 degrees apart, also saying to use template. Result of using the template (the two furtherest fins aren't even opposite, they are slightly offset). Red lines are fins, blue line is launch lug. |

That's definitely not right. Can you post a photo showing the template in position on the body tube? |

Hope you can make out how I've rotated the body. Line in the middle of the last picture is not fin or launch lug, just where the template ends. |

hi Ken
I will send you a email you if you want i could drop by your house and have a look at the kit to see if the fin guide is right or wrong that will solve the problem
Thanks for the offer but I don't want you going that far out of your way for just a small kit If I ignore the end fin guide and use it like this (red lines = fins, blue line = launch lug) it wraps around and lines up perfect. I'm happy enough to try it like that. Thanks all! |
